Surgery update

Owen did great!  We got him right out of bed and into the car because he couldn't eat anything before he went in.  I told him we were going to the surgery center and that they have a fish tank. The whole way there he was asking about the fish "Orange?" "purple?"-he made the no breakfast thing very easy (way better than I would have taken it)!  He gave loves to the anesthesiologist and the nurses when they came in the pre-op room-precious!  The surgery was about 40 minutes and in the doctor's words, Owen got the "full monty" as far as what they can do for his infections.  They put in the stainless steel tubes, took out his adenoids and took a culture of the bacteria.  He had a rough time as the anesthesia wore off after the surgery and was trying to pull out his IV in his foot, but took a little nap shortly after that and had a big appetite when we got home.  Brandy came up to stay with him for a while so I could run to school for a few hours and pick up Owen's prescriptions.  He had lots of fun playing with Brandy (and Uncle Ty who stopped by for a little bit too) and is down for a really good nap right now.  We're hoping his recovery is easy and that this is the end of ear infections!    

Owen's ears

I don't think I have posted much about Owen's ears, but he's had infections off and on since he was 9mo old.  Last October we decided to have tubes put in with the idea that they would help his ears drain properly and it would clear up infections.  I had heard about so many kids that never had another infection after getting tubes so I had high hopes.  Since getting the tubes, little man has had several infections and has been on 5 or 6 antibiotics that have not cleared the infections.  He's been such a little champ though.  With pretty much a constant infection, he doesn't sleep very well, but he's a happy boy during the day full of smiles and new words, you would never know he has sore ears.  

So...back to the ENT, and tomorrow we're going in to get stainless steel tubes put in (a small percentage kids have a reaction to the plastic ones), a culture of the infection, and possibly remove his adenoids (I don't really know what they do, but they may be pressing on the eustachian tube in the ear causing it to not drain as well).  After the last surgery, he was fine, so I'm planning on tomorrow going just as well-cross your fingers!  

He's looking forward to seeing the fish in the waiting room :)   

We are hoping this will do away with ear infections-we'll let you know how it goes!

A visit to Seattle

Brett has a dental conference this week in Seattle so Owen and I drove over with him for the weekend and flew back yesterday.  We got in Friday just in time for a delish dinner that we enjoyed with Maria, Eric, my Mom and my Dad.  Owen loved seeing everyone and stayed up way too late getting spoiled.  We shopped a little, the boys watched a lot of football, and Owen was very entertained by his aunties (Lisa came up too!) and uncle Eric.  Thanks M&E for a fun weekend-and for housing Brett for the week!  

Brett's conference goes until Wednesday, so he'll be home toward the end of the week.  That also means that I can't post pics until then because I left my camera at Maria and Eric's.  Darn it.  

33 weeks

Here is a sneak peek at what I've been wearing since October!  I spared you the sight of me in them and pulled this pic off google images.  My veins in my left leg are visible from my undies to my heel and I'm thankful everyday that I'm not pregnant in the summer.  Since it's winter, it's not terrible wearing support hoes under everything, except that they aren't the most comfortable things in the world and it takes some extra time to get them on.  As I grow, it's more and more awkward and tiresome to pull these on, and quite the sight I might add.  But, it could be worse...I could have to wear them with shorts or a cute summer dress-right? (and they only come in nude and dark nude so the possibility of pulling them off as actual tights or leggings is out)  

Other than that, my pregnancy is going well; baby girl is moving a lot and seems to be growing everyday.  She's growing so well that I'm measuring two weeks ahead of schedule and my Dr. wants to do an ultra sound at 38 weeks to see exactly how big our little girl is.  I'll keep you posted and show pics of the new baby room soon!  By the way, Owen has been sleeping on his mattress on the floor for almost a week and is doing great-the crib is in the baby room!

I don't know if he really knows that he is being trained to help out, or if he just thinks it's a fun game, but we're going to keep going with it!  Owen loves to help unload the silverware from the dishwasher...He passes me a utensil or two and says "thank you" as I put it in the drawer.  Lately he'll tell me "fork", "spoon".  Our next lesson is sorting so he can put them in the drawer on his own, he's going to love it!  He's also fairly interested in setting the table.  The other night he was hungry for dinner and losing patience waiting for Brett to get home.  As a time filler, I asked him if he wanted to set the table..."Yeah".  He did a very nice job and then climbed up in the chair and pretended to eat.  He's so fun!

(Please don't tell me that this won't last forever because I'm going to think like it will!)

Happy New Year

We're back to the usual routine starting today but had fun family time over the break.  Brett and I kicked off the new year with a movie and jammies by 9 and bed by 12.  It was pretty wild!  I was more than happy to welcome 2010 in sweats!  The first few days of the new year were spent playing with new toys, taking down Christmas :(, cleaning and relaxing together.  Happy New Year to you all!

Owen LOVES playing outside, especially in the snow.  It's not a problem at all to convince him to put his gloves, coat and hat on-he's knows it means going outside.  

Getting them off is sometimes a problem though!

It was an extra special outing in the wagon when we picked up Mya up the street.  They had a blast together in the radio flier-now every time we go in the wagon Owen says "Mya?" in hopes that we can go pick her up.
